Tell us about yourself and your business on Carousell!

Hi I’m Nabeelah, and I started partytheorysg to provide balloons and party supplies for personal and corporate events. Before starting my business in Carousell, I was an early childhood educator. However, my journey was cut short as I was hospitalized due an auto-immunue disease called Lupus. I was unable to go back to work as my disease wasn’t under control. I decided to start a home based business so that I could focus on recovering yet still have some income flowing in. I decided on balloons and party supplies because I have an interest in that industry and I have always loved to plan parties for my friends and family. That’s when I started doing the business on Carousell, and it’s been 4 years since then. My best selling product is our balloon packages as it is affordable and hassle free.

 

Why did you choose Carousell as your selling platform and in your opinion, how is it better than other platforms? 

Carousell platform is so easy to use. Buyers simply have to search for the item and click Chat to Buy. You will usually receive a prompt response as well. I definitely went through a couple of downs. Firstly, my close business partner abruptly decided to quit and started a business similar to mine, it affected me a lot as we have worked very closely from the start but I managed to pull through it with the support of my new partner who recently joined me. Can you share with us your most memorable experience on Carousell so far? 

It has been great! About 3 years ago, a customer came to me 1-2 days before their wedding to help with wedding decorations. A lot of vendors turned them down as it was too last minute and deco had to be up by 7am at a hospital. The customer shared with me that they had to rush the wedding because the bride’s mum was critically ill. I went down with my partner at 4am to set up the decorations at the hospital within 2-3 hours, although it was extremely rushed, it was worth it seeing their smiles at the end of the day. It was the most meaningful and memorable set up we have done.

 

Is there any advice you’d give to someone unsure about growing their business on Carousell?

I highly recommend starting your business on Carousell as there are a lot of users. It is an easy to use platform. Do your research and never give up. We might experience setbacks in our journey as an entrepreneur but always strive and know that there are better days ahead. Always believe in yourself because if you don’t, who will?


What are you most proud of in your line of work and what keeps you going?
Being able to create a relationship/bond with my customers and seeing my customers happy and satisfied with my work keeps me motivated. Wanting to provide a better life for my parents keeps me going.
